Lu Liu

—–Discovering “Slow” Fashion

As a fashion designer, Lu’s fashion style has always been on the more on the sexy, mature and modern side. Her upbringing has a huge impact on this, as Lu has been studying abroad in Paris and New York since she was 16. She insists that clothing should be practical and comfortable while designing new products.

In Autumn 2010, Spanish jewelry designer, Paloma Sanchez and Korean handbag designer, Currie Lee and Lu LIU developed the concept of “slow” fashion. They aim to unite designers from China and other countries to create new fashion trends. Apart from collaborating with these international designers, Lu was assisted by Citroen, France, to create a new collection surrounding the idea of“driving green”.

This concept is called Lumier D’espoir (Light of hope). Raw and old materials from cars are used for this collection; she wants to reach a point of real recycling. During the process of making this new collection, Lu hopes to further promote the concept of recycling by giving it a new life, once again.

Discovering your Inner Beauty

Beijing Youth Daily interviewed Liu Lu, founder of fashion line Lu 12.28

——Discovering your Inner Beauty

Liu Lu hopes that in the next ten years, she can create a new sense and style of fashion for Chinese women along with other young Chinese fashion designers. She also hopes China’s fashion industry can develop into a more independent environment with professional quality and an abundance of growing new ideas.

When Liu Lu develops ideas for her pieces, she believes women should discover their own individual attributes. When choosing clothing for themselves, Liu Lu says a lot of people are not aware of their characteristics and qualities. The most important thing to remember is to know your strengths and weaknesses. That is why Liu Lu also says, she does not have any model or image in her mind when designing something new. She believes the most important thing in design is to show a person’s beauty. That’s what she focuses when she makes new designs

She believes Chinese women should take account of fashion from foreign countries but not replicate foreign (European) styles, as Chinese women have their own unique sense of beauty.

Something we must be aware of is that Chinese people are traditionally too ‘practical’ when choosing what to wear. As our society is slowly becoming more and more educated and modern, we should be more aware of our dressing sense. The Chinese proverb says that people live on the four basics of ‘clothing, food, housing, transport’. As the society of China of changing, people – especially modern Chinese women should be more aware of their sense of dressing and choosing their dressing style becomes a part of their lifestyle. Clothing is no longer a basic necessity of life, but a way of living with style.

Lastly, Liu Lu takes into account that every person is different; people come from different families, education backgrounds and peruse different career pathways. When asked if there is any “must have” for this season. She says that due to people’s different personal attributes, their “must haves” with also be unique and different. The most important is to understand and find your sense of style.

–“Lu 12.28. Clothing is no longer a basic necessity of life, but now a way of expressing your sense and lifestyle.”

FALLING FOR YOU

FALLING FOR YOU

— 2010 F/W Fashion Collaboration Trunk Show

Beijing, China. Today, International designers have chosen their new home to develop their creations “CHINA”.

As ubiquitous as made in China may seem, the respected paraphrase is “Created in China” which reaches out to a wider form of interpretation and in this case to reveal how important China has become for domestic and international crossover and collaboration design projects.

China’s fashion industry and consumers are emerging as Asia’s fashion center rapidly surpassing Japan and neighboring Korea, As Asia’s primary luxury consumer market especially for luxury based brands but also and more importantly is the emergence of ‘independent international designers’ who have selected China in which and from which to create their brands: ‘created in China’.

China’s positioning vis a vis international fashion has and is shifting from one of merely manufacturing based production to now ultimately designing such that several China based designers are sourcing or manufacturing overseas.

Also, correlative to this trend is the emergence of not only a) independent designers (i.e. reflecting the maturation of Chinese consumers who in the past purchased only ‘common brands’ but now seek more obscure, and thus exclusive, pieces from boutiques and independent designers), but also b) internationally trained Chinese or international designers who believe China to have a consumer market sufficiently sophisticated to support their designs and design philosophies.

To design is a choice, to cater not only for oneself but to realize ideas for others. To design is an artists inspiration “falling in love” for the first time each time, undeniably a complex relationship and process.

“Falling For You” women fashion collaboration, will illustrate designers creations including Ms. Currie Lee, Ms. Liu Lu, and Ms. Paloma Sanchez. The theme is gold and Black, signifying 2 contrasts between the sparkle of value with the mystery and formality in the designed items.

Setting China as their theater for creation and collaboration, for a special afternoon, we will present the “Falling For You” Fall & Winter collection preview for women including designs from D-Sata bags, Lu1228 fashion and Paloma Sanchez jewelry. The preview will be open to a selected few mid October at the coveted Yi House 798 Art Hotel.

Butterflies represent transformation. They evolve from a caterpillar into a beautiful, wondrous being – much like a woman finding her inner goddess; her personal power.
